The MegaMan and Sonic Sprite Showcase!

Credit to all the authors listed for the sprites. We do 8 bit, 16, bit and 32 bit sprites (mostly 8 bit) and Sonic sprites. WE TAKE REQUESTS. no trolling, flaming, cussing (some allowed) and ABSOLUTELY NO STEALING SPRITES AND DON'T CLAIM ANY AS YOUR OWN, unless you actually made them and your part of this showcase. *One new rule: I would like to address the fact that THIS IS NO LONGER A SHOWCASE WHERE WE POST RESOURCE SPRITES OR SPRITES WE DIDN'T MAKE! I'm gonna remove the sheets that aren't ours soon. any body else that posts anything that isn't theirs will be punished, if caught, with the following: 1st offense: a warning. 2nd offense: comment privilege taken away. 3rd offense: uploading privilege taken away Anything past the third offense will result in removal from this comic.

Contest Idea Discussion

So we don't crowd up Classic Cinnamon's page, how about moving the discussion here.

i still have my hopes up for kicking out the inactive authors and oppening the author status
and as for the prize.....
the prize could be making a dedication page especially to the winner (as if it were like 300 comics thing) the winner would also : able to kick out/invite 1 author (not a very good idea)
B. be nominated "author of the whatever time you do contests"

About the contests: I'm OK with the contests having some kind of prize, that would surely make people participate instead of having a friendly competition.

The only problem is that I have no idea of what we could give as a prize, so I want you people to comment on that. I'll try to come up with a simple contest to get this "inactive author kicking" started, you can still give me ideas for contests.

To make this interesting, I'm accepting any ideas that don't necessarily involve Mega Man or Sonic and allowing people outside the showcase to participate.
(ex: A Mario spriting contest)

Of course, that doesn't mean that we're changing the name of the comic. I would also need someone else to judge with me, if you think that you can judge presicely and make clear decisions, apply now by sending me a PM (members of the showcase only)

"You like it? You don't like it?"

Feel free to express your opinions.

For a prize, if you have the ability to, maybe a 10 dollar game from steam?

As for contest ideas, to keep with the Megaman/Sonic showcase, a conversion of one to the other's style. Like making Sonic Megaman able and vice versa.

Zak TH, August 20th, 2011, 8:34 am

An actual prize like Akuma suggested might be good. I don't see a lot of people getting excited over a wallpaper or something of the sort. The inactive author idea is okay, but only if the contest is open to those outside the showcase, I'm not to keen on the idea of someone getting to invite/kick out anyone they want.

Answers Ok, let's answer some questions and make things clear:

Your idea of a prize seems really out of place. It's just a webcomic sprite contest, not a big competition with cash prizes. A prize like that would make participants that lost a contest rage on me for lots of reasons:

* "It's not a Mega Man sprite, you don't like my work"

* "You don't like/hate me!"

And a lot more of stupid reasons.

Another thing that comes into play is the spriter's skill level, someone who has a long story of making sprites would have an "unfair advantage" over others and people would assume that such person gets the prize for that reason, I don't want that to happen so that's why I'm not participating in these contests.

So, to avoid all that stuff I'm not giving any price that involves cash and I also won't allow anyone else to do so. I'm not accepting nor giving money for playing with Paint.

If I happen to find a big number of inactive authors then I would open the author application again.

As for your ideas:

A. No
B. I would give the winner an honorable mention in the comic profile, along with their prize of course. I don't really know much about this "Spriter of the year" or whatever.

I would tell those people to go participate in a Art Competition if all they want is winning material things. This is not the place for that. About the author invite/kick thing, I actually got asked to let someone enter the showcase again after quitting, not happening.

That's the spirit, keep the ideas coming guys!

Hopefully this answers everything about the upcoming contests, for now.

I think everyone need do an fan character in some of those styles Megaman (all the styles) and Sonic (all again) of course characters already made can't participate at last in this style, if you want to make your sonic character in MM7 or ZX style is ok.

Also try to convert MM things into sonic style and conver Sonic in MM

You might as well remove Abdie. His profile pic says moved to SilentDusk, so there's no point in keeping his abandoned account.

Pingas260XL, August 21st, 2011, 8:14 pm

Make the contest have a Steampunk theme. That would be interesting.

Alienoid, August 21st, 2011, 10:51 pm

Maybe a NetNaviwithnoclassiccounterpart to a Robot Master contest? Like classic Number Man or something.
